In IPL 2024’s initial phase capitals, Titans,
and RCB are set to face a packed schedule
The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will kick off
the tournament by hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram
Stadium on March 22.
The IPL recently unveiled a partial schedule, encompassing
the first 21 matches from March 22 to April 7. The IPL final is slated for May
26, with just a five-day gap before the opening match of the men's T20 World
Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA and the Caribbean
starting from June 1.
The second half of the tournament schedule will be released once the Election Commission of India announces the dates for the national elections, anticipated to be held in April and May.
The tournament's opening match is set for 8pm IST, while
subsequent evening games will follow the usual routine at 7.30pm IST.
Double-header days will see the early game at 3.30pm IST. The initial schedule
includes four double-headers, with two on the opening weekend. On March 23,
Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals at home, followed by Kolkata Knight
Riders hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens. The following day,
Rajasthan Royals will play Lucknow Super Giants, while Mumbai Indians, now led
by Hardik Pandya, will play Gujarat Titans, his former team. Unlike previous
seasons, the season opener won't feature both finalists from the previous
season, with Titans starting their campaign two days later. Punjab Kings and
Titans will have back-to-back matches with just a day's break. After their
first match on March 23, Punjab Kings will face RCB in Bengaluru on March 25.
Titans, led by Shubman Gill, will head to Chennai after their opener on March
24 to play CSK on March 26.
The Delhi Capitals will play their March 22-April 7 matches
at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam due to venue preparation constraints
after hosting Women's Premier League matches. Capitals, Titans, and RCB will
play five matches in this period, while KKR will play only three. Punjab Kings
will use a new venue in Mullanpur for home games. MS Dhoni will return to
action with Chennai Super Kings, while Hardik Pandya will captain Mumbai
Indians, and Rishabh Pant will lead Delhi Capitals after recovering from a car
accident. IPL 2024 will feature 74 games, including playoffs, involving teams
like Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers
Hyderabad, and others.
